Library Card Authentication

If your patrons have library barcodes, student ID numbers, or other identifiers that follow a predictable pattern, this information can be used for remote access to your Credo Online Reference Service or Literati account.

To enable this method of authentication, provide us with the barcode number pattern or patterns that all identifying numbers will follow, such as "all barcodes start with 1156 or 1157 and have 14 total digits" or "all barcodes start with 21 and have 5 digits followed by an X." Please send this information to our support team, or submit a support request. We maintain the barcode information internally, and it will not appear in your Admin account, so please contact us with any updates.

Once your library card pattern is set up in our system, you can provide a link on your web site for use by your remote users. This link will accept IP authentication from in-library users and prompt remote users for a barcode, so it can be used as the primary link to Credo.

Link to Credo Reference using the URL:

http://search.credoreference.com?auth=libcard&institutionId=****

...where **** is the client number assigned to you by Credo Reference. The URL will be provided by Customer Support when we set up your barcode patterns.

You can also use the library card prompt on your deeplinks to Credo. Just add ?auth=libcard&institutionId=**** to your Credo links. For example, here is the deeplink format for a single title:

http://search.credoreference.com/content/title/lkingitca?auth=libcard&institutionId=****

If the Credo URL has a question mark in it already, such as the search results page, modify this to &auth=libcard&institutionId=****, as follows:

http://search.credoreference.com/search/all/?searchPhrase=brain&auth=libcard&institutionId=****

We can also provide you with an updated set of MARC records or a special search box that incorporates the library card prompt upon request to support@credoreference.com.
